Medi-Vap
Inhaled vaporized medication · pocket-sized cylindrical vial
- Aerosolized medication speeds metabolism — rapid healing of wounds from bullets, blades and bruises
- STD effect: effective against the diseases that once plagued humanity (syphilis, AIDS, gonorrhea)
- Side effect: infertility — regular use is strongly correlated with infertility in both sexes; the drug kills sperm and eggs

The pocket vial that made the 23rd century survivable. A pull of Medi-Vap closes a knife wound in hours and cleared a whole category of disease out of human life; it is one of the most profitable pharmaceuticals in history and nobody carries less than two.
The bill comes later. Regular users go infertile, both sexes, and the population decline that follows is a pressing modern issue — one the people inhaling it tend to rate below the wound they are currently closing.

Humanity’s first synthetic Aether restoration compound, and still the one everybody drinks. Chemical analysis of the Martian Indra Fountain led directly to it; the recipe that resulted is Indonesian fruit and a great deal of quiet chemistry.

Bodhi Agni

A crimson spice that evolved to drink trace minerals from Mars’s iron-rich regolith — hence the blood-red color and the properties. Its flavor opens sweet, like cinnamon, and closes with a heat that warms rather than burns; Martian colonial kitchens and Earth’s high-end restaurants both prize it.
It is notoriously difficult to cultivate outside Mars’s specific atmospheric conditions, which makes it one of the Inner Sol’s most expensive seasonings and sends harvesting expeditions into Radi-Mon-controlled territory for a kilogram at a time. Then there is Saturn, where it grows better than anywhere, for reasons nobody has explained.
