Rule of 22 — every human’s PRIMAL stats sum to exactly 22 without external boosts. Gains in one stat cost others: a warrior who falls in love may lose Power as Libido rises — weaker in battle, luckier in life. The Watch shows PRIMAL only to its wearer; certain advanced scanners detect approximate distributions.
The device that replaced the smartphone. Within a world and its orbit a Watch simply works — calls, data, payments — because it rides the local planetary network. Between worlds it is only as connected as the QEC Chakra it holds a license for; without one, it has nothing.
That is the quiet politics of the Watch: a unit bought on Mars comes with a Mars-public home license, relocating means re-licensing, and the “Omni” tier that covers every public Chakra in the Inner Sol costs more than most people earn. Faction and private Chakras don’t sell access at all.

Originally developed for deep-cover operatives who needed to change their appearance in an instant, the Nucleus Shield hides a defensive system inside a hair clip. The barrier is the core of it; the hairstyling is the cover story that happens to be true.
Its limits are the Principium’s: maximum power needs the wearer’s Aether gates and body exposed and a high Libido to keep the reserves filling. A fully armored or stoic warrior finds it of little use, and a psion with inconsistent Aether usage struggles to keep it powered.

Unknown even to Sigrun, Hamr is a Nucleus Shield rendered without its psionic capabilities. What the fifth slot is for, and why the Soul Barrier was stripped from a cover-kit issue item, becomes an important subplot in Volume 3.

Part reliquary, part weapon mount. A Spirit Lantern floats where its wielder wants it and casts from there, which frees both hands and every angle. The stored Aether is the Rakshasa touch: the lantern remembers people, and what it remembers is useful.

Fuuka’s go-to weapon and psionic focus. Fuuka plugs its braided handle; it floats up beside her, glowing toxic violet, and the portals open around it. Everything she summons arrives through Hotaru.

The membranes respond to physical strikes and psionic impulses alike; activated, they create overlapping acoustic fields. A Griot’s drum is armor, engine, and jammer depending on the tempo — and the one instrument on the battlefield the enemy can’t take away and play back.

Nucleus Mill
靈核礱 (Líng Hé Lóng) · Artifact Class · pocket-space transmutation vessel
- Creation — Heilgjöf, the Whole Gift: forms only when a being pours its entire life force and the last sliver of its soul for a lover at the summit of a perfect cultivation — willingly, knowingly, without remainder
- Death-in-bliss is the raw condition; consent is the fork — harvested at its peak, a being becomes a Sáðturn (mindless, sessile, weaponized); given whole, it becomes a Mill (generative and loyal)
- The Coercion Rule — worked with consent and rest, a Mill transmutes as asked; coerced (stolen catalyst, denied dormancy, an unwilling proxy) it produces ruin, at worst actively hostile to the operator · no known exceptions
- The Fenris Horde, which manufactures death-in-bliss at industrial scale, has never produced one — a gift cannot be forced

An organ-born or hand-made vessel containing a foldable pocket space in which ingredients are stored, mixed, and transmuted. The name is homophonous with 靈核龍, “spirit-core dragon”; Imperium scholarship notes the pun and has never decided whether it is one.
Fewer than five Mills appear in recorded history and none is confirmed to survive. The primary modern source is Meiya Ji’s private archives, which document the class and theorize — correctly — the Heilgjöf condition. Unrecognized by any institution: the teapot of Vinh Tra, long displayed in Phoenix District’s Museum of Xing Hong Origins, is a dormant Nucleus Mill. The “brewing” of the founding legend was literal.

Grótti
Nucleus Mill · Kraken spermatophoric sac · “Chyu-Chyu”
- Storage — items fed through the orifice are membrane-wrapped into compact packets; the pocket space accepts objects far larger than the Mill (a full-length weapon; a bath’s worth of shed scales) and holds them without decay
- Transmutation — one or more ingredients + one catalyst → a one-time ultimate spell or a unique equipment · the catalyst must be a substance from a woman’s body, or from someone physically or emotionally intimate with her
- Feeding Ladder — 1. Offering (poured in like any ingredient) · 2. Latch (tendrils hook to the breast, orifice suckles a woman’s nipple to draw her milk as catalyst) · 3. Deep Latch (vulval attachment; for transmutations at the edge of possibility)

“Yours. He gave himself to you. Keep.”— Hreint, carving the sac free
The Kraken defied Batu’s command to take Sigrun or slaughter her companions. It chose intimacy with Sigrun instead, and died in bliss at climax. Hreint, who had watched the Barrow make Sáðturns from men who did not choose it, recognized what that made the sac and cut it free. Identified as a Nucleus Mill by Ume from Meiya’s archives during the Oubliette escape; nicknamed “Chyu-Chyu” by Håkon for the sound it makes when squeezed; restored from dead tissue by Ume’s Void Karasav aboard the Polaris.
When its tendrils first oriented toward Sigrun’s scent, she named it Grótti, after Fróði’s wish-mill from a childhood story heard on Europa — a memory she cannot verify as her own. Naming the gift completed her acceptance of it. Outputs to date: the identification of the Kraken seed’s homeward quantum signature, and the crucible-work joining the portions of the first starship-scale Semen Portal.

Uyên Ương
鴛鴦 (“Mandarin Ducks”) · Nucleus Mill, dormant · catalogued as “the tea set of Vinh Tra”
- Dark porcelain glazed with a drifting starfield no catalogue has matched to any sky · small golden pearls like captured suns sleep at the pot’s floor
- The pocket space sits behind the belly of the pot
- Operation — ingredients steep in the pot; the transmutation completes only when the brew is poured into both cups and drunk together by two true companions
- Under the Domain Rule it mills what its makers loved: shared warmth, welcome, the table kept ready
Stolen from Phoenix District’s museum in the early 2290s, it crossed the void in a gray-market courier’s sealed case, was shot down over Bhumi by Blood Midges, and came home in the hands of the people who happened to be standing there. Dilinur Altai, keeper of Seed Dumu’s shrine, recognized the lid inscription and read the recovery as Dumu’s long game.
The founding legend names no partner, but the lid is carved in the plural, and the second cup has never been explained. All repair attempts by tool and solder failed. The Mill revived only when Dilinur abandoned repair and simply brewed ordinary tea for Marcus Thorne and Håkon at her lowest hour. Uyên Ương answers companionship, not craft.

Håkon’s Coloring Book

- Visualizations of future events he sees with his “Chrono View” passive ability — and does not entirely understand yet
Håkon draws with crayons in a mini coloring book when idle. At the start of Volume 2 the book was rebound with a deep green cover and paired with fresh crayons. Most of it is what you would expect from a three-year-old with claws: the ship, Pappa, Sky Lady, a great many foods.
Some pages are not just for fun. Scattered among the drawings are scenes nobody in the crew has lived yet — Håkon’s Chrono View, put down in crayon by someone who does not know he is seeing the future and would not know what to do with it if he did. The crew has learned to look at Book-Book carefully.
